Vietnam Field Command Arrived Vietnam: August 1966 Departed Vietnam: 17 March 1973 Location: Nha Trang The first Republic of Korea forces to enter South Vietnam were in the form of a Survey (liaison) Team which departed for Vietnam on 19 August 1964. On 25 February 1965 the advance element of the Korean "Dove" unit arrived and was located at Bien Hoa. This unit consisted of an engineer battalion, a transport company, a Marine engineer company, a security battalion, a service unit, a control group and a mobile hospital. The main body arrived 16 March. During the period of September-November 1965, the Republic of Korea rapidly reinforced its assets with the crack Capital Division ("Tigers") - less one regimental combat team - and the 2nd Marine Corps Brigade ("Blue Dragons") along with supporting elements. In April 1966 Korea sent another division, the 9th Infantry Division ("White Horse"). In 1967 another Marine battalion landed with additional support forces. After the 9th Infantry Division arrived, Korea established a corps headquarters, the Field Command, close to I Field Force of the U.S. Army at Nha Trang. Though the 2nd Marine Brigade departed Vietnam between December 1971 and February 1972, the bulk of the Korean forces in Vietnam did not commence withdrawal until 31 January 1973. The last Republic of Korea units were out of South Vietnam by 23 March 1973. Republic of Korea
