02/27/2024 Name Thomas Hayes [email protected] Comment My father Thomas Barry Hayes who is still with us today was stationed at Base Camp Phu Loi in 65-66. He went from San Francisco Bay to Saigon by boat. He was with Co A 121st Signal Battalion US Army. I just recently found out all these details as I dug into dads time in service. I am filing a VA claim related to agent orange for him that is way overdue. I'm an 8 year USMC DAV of the Gulf War myself and can't imagine what a day in Vietnam was like never mind the nights. Thank you for gathering this info and finding a place for us to use for research. Thank you for your service and God Bless you. Date

I was previously in Mannheim Germany. I was a Sgt. E5 in Vietnam. A young native American soldier in anger jumped on my back one night. I had absolutely no intention of causing him trouble. 2/13/21 Name Victor Bary [email protected] Comment So nice to see a Vietnam web site that takes the time to address the history of the country and the conflict and put it into context. It was a tragic mistake by our U.S. leaders - both in terms of those of us who served there and much more so for the country of Vietnam and its people. Far more of their civilians died than our soldiers or those of the ARVN and PAVN. I served with the 11th Combat Aviation Battalion in 1967 and knew the 205th, 178th, 213th, 128th, 162nd, 173rd and 184th Aviation companied first hand. Dedicated, hardworking young men committed to a fool's errand. Date

12 Feb 2021 Name Roger Anderson [email protected] Comment Hiroshi, must have been on some kind of chemical. Oddly there was a Hiroshi in our LRRP Company. Two teams of LRRP's went down to Phu Loi at the end of April and we were bored to death. In fact I suggested and we did go out and put a transistor radio away from our hide to see if we could suck VC/NVA in. Needless to say we decided to only send out one team at a time. In the early morning hours of 11 May 68,Ron Luse's team made contact with a large enemy unit. Luse was doing a jig and he kept saying "We found a cross over" That night we loaded for bear and went out about 11 pm. We weren't in position 10 minutes when Luse was saying on the radio. "WE 10 no wait 20 no wait 40 and they have a truck with a fifty cal mounted on it. Luse and Leisure each fired a LAW at the truck but missed when the artillery started coming in. About 2 am the artillery had to get some rest and when daylight was approaching we were told to wait for the 1/4 cav who had to have breakfast. As we swept the place and got some prisoners and bodies we hit an aid station near Dogleg Village. Jack Leisure was killed and I got a bad case of multiple gunshot wounds. and that's the way it was. |

5/3/2020 Name Mike Wood [email protected] Comment As a British Royal Air Force Officer who served in Vietnam with the British Embassy in Saigon in 1969, I was very interested to discover your excellent website and particularly the US Vietnam Order of Battle by the US Army Captain Shelby L Stanton retired. Specifically, during my year in Vietnam I visited the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) HQ at Phuoc Vinh in mid 1969 and flew in a AH-1 Cobra gunship on a sortie into War Zone C or D close to the field. A recent return to Vietnam last year has stimulated my interest in the Vietnam and I am now endeavouring to ascertain which helicopter unit I flew with that day in 1969. Thus far, I believe it to be part of the 227th Aviation Battalion (Assault Helicopter), and wondered whether the actual unit was possibly the air element of the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry? Unfortunately I am not familiar with the US Army Airmobile organisational structure, so I wondered whether anybody could please help me? Many thanks, Mike Wood Group Captain RAF (retired) Date

9-9-2019 Name John Jones [email protected] Comment A really off the wall enquiry from England. Whilst researching the CH37 in Vietnam, to help a veteran of the 56th TC. A picture has emerged (U.S.Army) of a ship noted as being at Phu Loi, circa 1967 for 'fire fighting'. Veterans records, show Army CH37'S all left in 1966. There were very few in country 1963-66 (Ten) I wonder if anyone has memories. Best Regards, John Jones. Date
