1st Philippines Civic Action Group, Vietnam (PHILCAG)
Arrived Vietnam: 14 September 1966 Departed Vietnam: 13 December 1969 * Location: Tay Ninh *Rear element departed 15 January 1970 The first Philippine Civic Action Group, Vietnam arrived in September 1966 and was located to the Thanh Dien Forest region of Tay Ninh Providence. It was concerned with pacification in the areas as well as defense of its base camp at Tay Ninh. In September 1968 the PHILCAG commenced withdrawal to the Philippines through reduction in personnel and on 1 December 1969 began actual redeployment. Upon its departure the U.S. 25th Infantry Division took over the PHILCAG's former base camp. Arrived Vietnam: 15 August 1967 Departed Vietnam: 13 December 1968 Location: Bear Cat The Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force initially sent to Vietnam was the "Queen's Cobras," an elite infantry regiment stationed at Bear Cat in conjunction with the U.S. 6th Infantry Division. The regiment was rotated back to Thailand when the Royal Thai Army Expeditionary Division arrived. |
Royal Thai Army Expeditionary Division
Arrived Vietnam: 25 February 1969 Departed Vietnam: 31 August 1971* *Reduced to brigade strength: see Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force The Royal Thai Expeditionary Division ("Black Panthers") arrived in increments and served at Bear Cat. The first troops arrived in the better part of 1968, followed by divisional headquarters, the 2nd Brigade and two artillery battalions which were in Vietnam on 9 January 1969. The 3rd Brigade then arrived 5 July - 5 August 1969 and replaced the 1st Brigade, which rotated back to Thailand as the 3rd Brigade arrived in Vietnam. Around August 1970 the "Black Panthers" Division was redesignated the Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force, a title it retained throughout subsequent phase-downs. Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force
Arrived Vietnam: 1 September 1971* Departed Vietnam: March 1972 * As brigade-sized element The Royal Thai Army Volunteer Force (RTAVF) had been in existence since August 1970 when the Royal Army Thai Expeditionary Division ("Black Panthers") was renamed. However, when its 1st Brigade redeployed to Thailand at the end of August 1971, the RTAVF lost all divisional connotation. The 1st Battalion departed 4 February 1972, the 2nd Battalion departed 25 January 1972 and the 3rd Battalion departed 15 January 1972.
