The 64th Quartermaster Battalion provided command, administration, technical and operational supervision for the operation and maintenance of a military petroleum distribution system and was assigned to the U.S. Army Support Command, Saigon. The assignment of this battalion headquarters consolidated all POL (petrol, oil, lubricants) units within the command under one headquarters. An additional duty of the battalion was as director of petroleum for the support command and for all petroleum depots in III CTZ. It was located at Long Binh.

The 240th Quartermaster Battalion had the same capabilities as the 64th QM Battalion and was assigned to the 58th Field Depot at Qui Nhon. On 1 June 1968 the battalion was relieved of this duty and assigned directly to the U.S. Army Support Command, Qui Nhon. It was stationed at Qui Nhon, Phu Tai and Din Dinh during its service in Vietnam.

The 259th Quartermaster Battalion was the Army reserve unit from Utah with the same capabilities as the 64th QM Battalion. It was deployed to Da Nang and Phu Bai where it handled petroleum support for the U.S. Army Support Command, Da Nang.

The 262nd Quartermaster Battalion provided petroleum storage facilities and wholesale distribution of petroleum products for the U.S. Army Support Command, Cam Ranh Bay. It was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay, and was responsible for petroleum operations throughout the support command area. On 1 November 1968 it was attached to the Cam Ranh Bay Depot.

The 528th Quartermaster Battalion was formed to replace the 259th QM Battalion when it left Vietnam. The 528th Battalion was stationed at Phu Bai and Da Nang to maintain control of attached petroleum and transportation (petroleum) companies. It was also assigned three ammunition companies and these often led the battalion to be known as an Ammunition Battalion or even the 528th Ordinance Battalion.
543rd Quartermaster Group

The 543rd Quartermaster Group was responsible for the supervision and administration of supply, service and maintenance operations in the Saigon-Cholon area to include depot and logistical responsibilities. With the introduction of the functional logistical management system centered on support command concepts in Vietnam, this technical service headquarters became unnecessary. It was inactivated and its assets used to form the 264th Supply & Service Battalion.
