Departed Vietnam: 30 January 1972 Previous Station: Fort Bragg Authorized Strength HHC 1966 - 98 1968 - 111 1970 - 111 The 45th Engineer Group was under the 18th Engineer Brigade throughout its service in Vietnam, planning a coordinating the activities of its assigned and attached units. These consisted of construction or other units engaged in the field construction, rehabilitation, or maintenance of facilities in support of the U.S. Army or Air Force operations. The group arrived at Cam Rahn Bay and moved to Dong Ba Thin on 15 July 1966. It relocated to Tuy Hoa on 15 October 1966, moving to Qui Nhon that December. It moved north to the Phu Bai area in February 1968, where it assumed general construction support missions for the I Corps Tactical Zone. The group then remained in the Da Nang area until departing Vietnam. 79th Engineer Group (Construction)

Departed Vietnam: 15 December 1970 Previous Station: Fort Lewis Authorized Strength HHC 1966 - 94 1968 - 111 1970 - 111 The 79th Engineer Group was switched from the 18th Engineer Brigade, where it first served in Vietnam, to the Engineer Command (Provisional) in December 1966, and in the fall of 1967 received its final major command switch to the 20th Engineer Brigade. The group was located at Phan Rang where it assigned projects to its subordinate units, allocated troops, construction material and equipment, and supervised contract construction, contract labor, and indigenous personnel. In October 1966, the group relocated to Long Binh, where is stayed until its departure from Vietnam. The 159th Engineer Group served under the 18th Engineer Brigade until it was transferred to the Engineer Command (Provisional) in December 1966. After the arrival of the 20th Engineer Brigade in Vietnam, the group was transferred on the 5 August, 1967 to that brigade's command. The group provided the overhead for command and control of three to five engineer battalions while processing the capability to design, plan and supervise construction of routes of communication, cantonments, buildings, airfields, minimal petroleum storage facilities and minimal port facilities. The 159th Engineer Group was first located at Bien Hoa but in July 1966 was relocated to Long Binh where it remained for the duration of its service in Vietnam.
