Departed Vietnam: 1 November 1971 Previous Station: Fort Polk Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 893 / 1968 - 674 / 1970 - 864 The 46th Engineer Battalion was capable of performing heavy construction projects, such as base camps and cantonment areas. The battalion served with the 159th Engineer Group throughout its Vietnam service. 70th Engineer Battalion (Combat)

Departed Vietnam: 21 November 1969 Previous Station: Fort Campbell Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 619 / 1968 - 812 The 70th Engineer Battalion was stationed at An Khe until early 1967 when it moved to Qui Nhon with the 937th Engineer Group. On 10 October 1967 it was sent to Pleiku. In 1968 it was transferred to the 35th Engineer Group at Ban Me Thuot. The battalion was capable of the same responsibilities assigned to the 14th Engineer Battalion and engaged in major construction projects. 84th Engineer Battalion (Construction)

Departed Vietnam: 11 July 1972 Previous Station: Fort Ord Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 893 / 1968 - 899 / 1970 - 899 The 84th Engineer Battalion had normal construction battalion capabilities (see 24th Engineer Battalion). It served at Qui Nhon, first with the 937th Engineer Group and after December 1966 with the 45th Engineer Group. On 15 March 1968 it was transferred to the 35th Engineer Group, returning to the 937th Engineer Group again in February 1969. In March 1971 the battalion went to the 45th Engineer Group and moved from Qui Nhon to Da Nang. The battalion came under control of the U.S. Army Engineer Command after the 45th Engineer Group departed Vietnam. After the Command was reduced to the U.S. Army Engineer Group, Vietnam, the battalion served with it until it received orders deploying from Vietnam in July 1972. 86th Engineer Battalion (Combat)

Departed Vietnam: 15 August 1969 Previous Station: Fort Dix Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 858 / 1968 - 812 The 86th Engineer Battalion was capable of normal combat engineer battalion functions (see 14th Engineer Battalion). It initially served with the 79th Engineer Group at Phu Loi. From 10 - 20 April 1967 it was transferred to the 34th Engineer Group at Bear Cat. On 15 March 1968 it was sent to My Tho and assigned to the 45th Engineer Group, where it remained until leaving Vietnam. |
87th Engineer Battalion (Construction)

Departed Vietnam: 1 March 1969 Previous Station: Fort Belvoir Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 893 / 1968 - 899 The 87th Engineer Battalion was capable of construction functions (see 34th Engineer Battalion) and served the 35th Engineer Group at Cam Ranh Bay, the 18th Engineer Brigade at Don Ba Thin in 1968, and the 199th Infantry Brigade at Long Binh from February 1969 until departure. Departed Vietnam: 3 May 1972 Previous Station: Fort Bragg Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 694 / 1968 - 905 / 1970 - 674 The 92nd Engineer Battalion constructed and rehabilitated roads, airfields, pipeline systems, structures and utilities. Departed Vietnam: 31 July 1971 Previous Station: Fort Lewis Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 899 / 1968 - 905 / 1970 - 674 The 93rd Engineer Battalion was capable of construction-type missions similar to those of the 34th Engineer Battalion. It served initially under the 79th Engineer Group, transferring to the 34th Engineer Group in December 1967. The battalion was located at Bear Cat, and on 17 June 1968 moved to Dong Tam, where it remained until posted to Binh Thuy in February 1971. 116th Engineer Battalion (Combat)

Departed Vietnam: 21 August 1969 Previous Station: Idaho Falls via Fort Lewis Authorized Strength: 812 The 116th Engineer Battalion, Idaho National Guard, was capable of missions similar to those of the 14th Engineer Battalion. During its Vietnam service this battalion served at Bao Loc under the 35th Engineer Group. |
