Departed Vietnam: 30 November 1971 Previous Station: Fort Huachuca Authorized Strength: Battalion 1968 - 699 / 1970 - 598 The 459th Signal Battalion arrived at Phu Bai and moved to Nha Trang. It served the II Corps Tactical Zone and provided both area and base camp communications. The battalion was under the control of the 21st Signal Group. On 29 January 1968 the battalion temporarily went to Phu Bai to lend assets to the 63rd Signal Battalion. On 10 September 1968 it became responsible for Ban Me Thuot communications. |
501st Signal Battalion (Divisional)

Departed Vietnam: 12 January 1972 Previous Station: Fort Campbell Authorized Strength: Battalion 1966 - 352 / 1968 - 500 / 1970 - 399 The 501st Signal Battalion was part of the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) in Vietnam. Company B (Airborne) was serving the 1st Brigade of the division since July 1965, primarily at Phu Rang, by sending elements of the company to Vietnam. For capabilities of the battalion, see the 9th Signal Battalion. Due to the far-ranging nature of divisional operations, the battalion was often fragmented providing forward signal support to its scattered elements. 509th Signal Battalion (Support)
